✅ All Lycra fabrics are available directly from stock.
✅ Order before 13:00 (1 PM), and your product is often delivered the next working day.
✅ If you are unsure about a certain fabric or color, you can always order a sample.
The fabric is also known as swimsuit fabric because it stretches and dries quickly. This makes the material ideal for sportswear, swimwear, leggings, and lingerie.
Lycra is made of elastane, which is a synthetic rubber combined with polyester. It is therefore a synthetic fabric. Often, polyamide (nylon) is also added to it. Lycra is comfortable to wear, as it is a lightweight and breathable fabric. It is elastic and highly flexible.
Lycra is remarkably stretchy due to its 4-way stretch. This means the fabric stretches in every possible direction. As a result, the fit conforms well to the body and provides optimal freedom of movement. Lycra snaps back into its original shape. It is durable and strong.
When cutting Lycra fabrics, it is important to lay the fabric down flat and 'relaxed,' as it will stretch if you pull on it.
Use a jersey, ballpoint, or stretch needle when sewing the fabric. Do not exert any force or tension on the fabric while sewing either. Additionally, it is useful to use a zig-zag stitch, or alternatively, the "Seraflex by Mettler" stretch thread. Do not use pins; use wonder clips instead to prevent snags in the fabric.
You can wash Lycra fabrics at 30°C, but we prefer rinsing to maintain the stretch. Rinsing is actually quite sufficient. Absolutely do not wring the fabric. It cannot handle chlorine or bleach, so check to ensure these are not in your detergent.
Lycra cannot go into the dryer due to the heat. In addition, this fabric dries quickly on its own, so machine drying is not necessary.
Our advice is not to iron. In most cases, this is not necessary anyway because the fabric does not wrinkle.
At YES Fabrics, we have a wide range of fabrics, patterns, and haberdashery. Because of this, we always have something that meets your requirements. View all our Lycra fabrics online and choose the one you want.
