Solid fabrics, also known as uni-fabrics, are all fabrics without a print or woven-in image. This means the fabric consists of a single color and has numerous applications. You can easily create your own clothing, such as a jacket, dress, or cardigan. Using solid fabrics provides a sophisticated result and a timeless style.
Solid fabrics are woven but not printed, which gives the fabric a uniform appearance. In some cases, different thread thicknesses are used during weaving, which creates a playful effect. Whichever solid fabric you choose, we are certain that the result will be stunning!
The solid fabrics in our assortment are made from different types of materials, each with its own unique properties. If you choose a solid fabric made of cotton or wool, you can be sure that it will retain its shape for a long time. If you opt for linen, you are choosing airiness and durability. Linen ventilates and insulates well, is sturdy, and is easy to work with. Of course, we have many more materials in our collection of solid fabrics, each with its own charms.
Because solid fabrics are so incredibly versatile in use, we recommend carefully planning what you want to make beforehand. This ensures that the fabric you choose truly matches your project and that you can successfully bring your creation to life.
The washing instructions for the different types of fabric are incredibly important. Most fabrics undergo natural shrinkage after washing. Keep this in mind and check the material composition of the fabric you purchased. Some fabrics cannot be washed in the machine and must be washed by hand. At YES Fabrics, the correct washing instructions are listed for each fabric. This prevents any unnecessary surprises. In case of doubt or questions, always contact us.
After the solid fabric has been washed, you can proceed to cutting the fabric, if required. We recommend a sharp pair of fabric scissors for cutting the fabric. Lay the solid fabric on a flat surface and place the patterns correctly onto the fabric (straight grain). The correct grainline direction is often indicated on the patterns, making it instantly clear how to cut the fabric.
For sewing solid fabrics, the material of the fabric is once again very important. This helps you know what kind of needle to use for sewing your chosen solid fabric. For example, are you working with a fine fabric like cotton or linen? Then use a thinner needle.
Your homemade creation is finished! Now, the maintenance and care of the fabric begins. Below you will find more information on washing the fabric after it has been processed, as well as drying and ironing.
If you washed the fabric before processing, it has already undergone its natural shrinkage. If you choose to wash the solid fabric after processing, it may still shrink further depending on the material of the fabric. Keep this in mind and follow the washing instructions listed with our fabrics.
Not every fabric can withstand the dryer. We often recommend air-drying solid fabrics. This not only saves on energy costs, but it also keeps the fabric looking beautiful for the longest time. Note: not all fabrics can be dried in the sun due to bleaching.
Some solid fabrics can be ironed at a low temperature. Check carefully whether the material of the fabric is resistant to an iron before you begin. For instance, linen should be ironed on the inside with plenty of steam, while wool should absolutely not be ironed.
Our online assortment is very extensive, and we have a wide selection of solid fabrics in various sizes, colors, and materials. Also take a look at our haberdashery and patterns.
