Working with broderie fabrics
Preparing the fabric
Wash and iron the fabric before use to prevent shrinkage. This ensures that your embroidery does not distort after washing.
Sewing
Finish the seams neatly with a narrow zig-zag stitch or overlock stitch when working with broderie fabrics. This prevents fraying and gives the seams extra strength, making your embroidered work look professional and last longer.
When sewing broderie fabrics, use a sharp needle, such as a universal needle, size 70/10 or 80/12. These needles are thin enough to glide through the delicate fabric without causing damage to the embroidery work.
Washing instructions for broderie fabrics
For most broderie fabrics, a 40-degree washing machine cycle is suitable. However, the fabric will last longer if it is washed by hand or on a delicate cycle. For making bedding, wash everything first and put it in the dryer; that way, your duvet can go into the dryer afterward as well. Otherwise, for this beautiful embroidered fabric, it is better to avoid the dryer. Ironing is possible. If necessary, iron the fabric at a low temperature on the reverse side of the fabric to protect the embroidery.
