    What is bouclé fabric?

Bouclé fabric is a soft, warm fabric with an irregular appearance. The fabric is ideal for making warm clothing, such as a bodywarmer, skirt, jacket, or lining/upholstery. The fabric is also widely used as an interior fabric, such as for a throw blanket or cushion.

    The production of bouclé fabric

Bouclé fabric is usually woven by using irregular, coarse hair yarn or textured effect thread. This gives the impression that the fabric is made of interwoven loops.

    The properties of bouclé fabrics

Bouclé fabric is a strong fabric, lovely and soft, and therefore ideal for winter. In addition, the fabric is dirt-resistant and easy to work with. Due to its texture, mistakes are also less easily noticed.

    Working with bouclé fabrics

    Cutting

With bouclé fabrics, the nap of the fabric is often difficult to see. Do look at this carefully: always lay all pattern pieces in the same direction and consistently use either the inside or outside of the fabric.

    Sewing

Sew the fabric with a universal needle. If the fabric is a bit thicker, use a needle with a thickness of 90. Make sure you do not stretch the bouclé too much while sewing, and finish the edges well to prevent fraying.

    Care of bouclé fabrics

    Washing

This depends on the base material of the bouclé. In most cases, you wash the fabric on a wool cycle at 30 degrees.

    Drying

Do not put the fabric or clothing made of bouclé in the dryer. Instead, let it air dry neatly on a clothing hanger.

    Ironing

Bouclé often consists of a blend of different materials. Take a good look at the material and base your settings on the most delicate fiber. As a precaution, always iron on the reverse side with little pressure and at a low temperature.
